Throughout the geographic regions and various disciplines of our state, many people have not grasped how closely North Carolina's natural resources are tied to its economy, its culture, and its heritage. They see us standing at a crossroads of competing energies, some that are driving for economic growth and development and others who see such growth and development as being at odds with stewardship of the natural assets of our state.
