Solving Problems Together

  • When making decisions about important public issues, like the sustainable use of North Carolina’s natural resources and the quality of our environment, many different viewpoints need to be considered.
  • One of the most effective ways to facilitate communication among conflicting interests is through a process known as Collaborative Problem Solving.
  • Through building consensus and principled negotiation, workable agreements can be developed that are mutually satisfactory for all involved parties.

Summaries of these techniques are provided in pdf format below:

Additional resources and leadership training in collaborative decision making are available through the Natural Resources Leadership Institute, North Carolina Cooperative Extension at NC State University. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/agecon/nrli/index.htm
