Reducing the
Impact of Growth

Responsible, well-planned growth will ensure that North Carolina continues to have:

  • Clean air
  • Clean water
  • Natural areas
  • Working farms and forests

--- To support human health.

Which land should be developed?

As our state population grows, so does the need for comprehensive land use planning and development that conserves green space. By directing the growth away from critical natural areas, we can conserve a functioning network of protected open space.

To sustain human health, we must plan carefully so that natural systems will be able to clean our air and water. We need to invest in land conservation now to preserve water quality and protect our water supplies for the future.

Direct growth away
from critical natural areas.

Which land needs to be conserved?

Critical natural areas, waterways and wildlife habitat can not be replaced. The current generation of North Carolina citizens must have the foresight to conserve and protect our state’s network of natural systems - land and water and air - that will sustain future generations of residents.

Our natural resources can be resilient – if we don’t wait too long to take effective action. Taking care of the environment is in everyone’s best interest.

Let’s plan NOW for both
growth & conservation.
