Interactive Map Viewer: North Carolina's Conservation Lands
Using the Interactive Map Viewer
You can customize the map to display only the features that interest you by turning layers on and off. Selected map layers reveal critical features such as habitats, water bodies and infrastructure. You may identify or query map features to discover their database information. Use the map region selector below to launch a new browser window with the Interactive Map Viewer application zoomed in on your region of interest. Hint: Turn off any pop-up blocker applications you may have running.
Map Viewer Quick Tips:
- The blue panel to the right of the map window allows you to select which map layers to display.
- Click on folders to open them and reveal additional layers in that category.
- Click in the square checkbox next to a layer name to turn layers on or off. Note: Some layers are scale dependent - meaning they will not display until the map is zoomed in or out to an appropriate scale. If the magnifying glass symbol next to a layer name appears, this means you need to zoom in or out more to see that layer.
View Conservation Areas:
- Check the square checkbox next to each Conservation layer.
- Click the circular radio button beside Managed Conservation Lands to make this the "active" map layer. When the radio button has a black dot in the center of it, this means it is selected.
Identify Specific Areas:
- Click the "Zoom In" tool, shown with a "+ magnifying glass" in the toolbar directly above the map window, and then click the map area where you want to zoom in.
- Repeat until you are close enough to see details.
- Click the "Identify" tool, shown with a "i" in the toolbar directly above the map window, and then click a colored Managed Conservation Lands property. Hint: Make sure that Managed Conservation Lands is the "active" map layer.
- Database information for that property will display below the map.
